Blanket flower
Gaillardia pulchella

This coastal plant is found growing in interdune swales from Cocoa Beach north to Virginia.  It is very drought and salt tolerant and reseeds itself for years.

The  flowers on 18 inch tall stalks may continue almost a year or at least three months.  It will get a bacterial disease if wet which can be confirmed by a dead fish odor of the mushy leaves.  This is also a prairie plant and is found in the western U.S.

Mix with other beach plants like dune sunflower, salvia, beach verbena and sunshine mimosa.
